With a new year comes new change with Autodesk. Now the software offers advanced options to generate license files for network versions. This option is available through the Autodesk Account portal as long as you have the appropriate permissions.

Network License Manager 2017
The 2017 products are out and that means it is time to start doing new installs and creating images. One related task that is sometimes overlooked is updating LMtools from the server where your network license is stored and that your users access to acquire a license.

Have you noticed that when you create a new storm system in Autodesk Civil 3D 2015 or 2016 that the darn sumps are all set to 2.0, even when your rules specifiy them to be 0.0? Well here is the fix.

Over the next few months I will be discussing some of my adventures with point clouds and ways of creating them and using then in both AutoCAD Civil 3D and InfraWorks. Over this time I hope to get everyone on board as to why PT clouds are the new way of surveying.

The Pen Markup tool is the one many gravitate to when they start to mark up a drawing for the first time. And why not? It is the tool you’d use to mark up a real paper document. But I do have – or I did have – an issue with the fact that there was little data associated with the scribbling. Also most handwriting is hard to read and is left open to interpretation.

Once a LAZ file from the MnGeo website, which is by default metric, has been extracted and cropped, follow the steps below to bring the resulting metric LAS file into an Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016 imperial environment to create usable data and ultimately a surface.
