In my experience through the years as an application engineer, I’ve noticed there are many people, like me, who use Autodesk’s Virtual Agent to download software. Are you a part of this group while downloading IDSP 2017, IDSU 2017 or other suites? Take note: If you are in the U.S., download the software labeled “64 Bit – ENU” (ENU stands for English U.S.). The other download is for those in the U.K. Perhaps this was obvious to all of you, but I’ve been haunted by the clean-install process more than once so chose to share my little scare with you.

Civil 3D Default Sump Depth with Value of 2.0

Have you noticed that when you create a new storm system in Autodesk Civil 3D 2015 or 2016 that the darn sumps are all set to 2.0, even when your rules specifiy them to be 0.0?  Well here is the fix.

PT Clouds: Working with Huge Point Clouds

Here is a quick way of getting what you need from a huge PT cloud plus a lot more.  Let’s create what I call a Hybrid PT Cloud. We'll take a huge 2500 acre LIDAR created PT cloud that is nearly 37 million points and import it into Civil 3D as PT clouds. We will do this by eventually creating three separate DWGs, each with one surface. Using data shortcuts we will reference into a third DWG the two other surfaces and paste them together to make a HYBRID surface that includes both.
